Meet the Meili Team: Jordan
We talk a lot about the robotics industry, mobile robots, fleet management software, interoperability issues, and so on. However, behind the scenes exists a passionate team of awesome individuals who are all contributing to the growth of Meili Robots in their own, unique way. Since we have been sharing a lot of industry-related articles so far, we thought it would be nice to finally share a more personal side of Meili Robots: our team!
In this series of blog posts, we introduce our team members one by one. This time, we are getting to know Jordan Fryers, our VP of Business Development.
“I’ve always been interested in technology and am an avid user of it personally. With this vested interest, I grew my passion for tech into a role that I loved everyday. With a background having completed two post secondary engineering educations and a passion for clear communication, this was a natural fit for me. I’ve enjoyed talking with the technical team both internally and externally, making sure we’re saying the same things and being on the same page. While I also enjoy conversations with all levels of an organisation from the C suite to the end user in the factory/warehouse floor. It’s a personal goal to identify what the end problem is, and make the technology solve that problem, as simply as possible and as quickly as possible.”
“I’ll start my day with a review of my calendar and which external/internal meetings I have on the books (sometimes I check this the night before). When I have this overview, I make sure the members of the team that are needed are aware and prepared for what’s needed. Sometimes it’s a technical discussion, sometimes a demo, sometimes a trial and maybe it’s just contract wrap up. Currently, I manage the role covering many aspects of what a typical BD team would do, from setting up meetings, following up with prospects, recording meeting notes, sending contracts and arranging in person support. Soon that will hopefully change as we’re looking to grow the team and have more members helping us with this.”
“I joined the team in March 2022, so currently have been with Meili for 6 months. We’ve been moving fast together from the very beginning, slightly tweaking the necessary components of our offering and the software to help customers be more successful together.”
“I love making Meili and our customers successful. Especially when we’ve had multiple meetings and/or planning, when the solution is either an added feature for the customer or a contract is finalised, I get very excited. These are the best feelings when it’s a win, either internally or externally!”
“As I said in my first answer, technology is super cool! It is in many areas of my life and I enjoy solving problems with automation. Using robots for these automated solutions is an exciting option because it frees up time for humans to do other things while the robots do the regular, boring, recurring, or dangerous task.”
“Briefly, my background includes 7 years of engineering and business development experience in Canada and Europe. I typically say in meetings I don’t have that cool European accent like everyone else out here, but I have lots of international experience, both in life and work.“
“In my experience in business development in Europe, I have had the privilege to work for three separate companies in the robotics and autonomous driving space. For each company, I’ve been proud to bring on large customers, name brands and grow a startup commercially. This has been my proudest accomplishment professionally, and proving I can effectively communicate, understand needs and provide solutions that are valuable to all parties.”
“In my free time, I enjoy sports and quality time with friends and family. I do multiple sports including rock climbing, river surfing, and swimming (which will be elaborated more in the next question). Travelling around the world is also a fun activity with my wife or other friends and family.”
“Since I was 5, I’ve played a sport called Underwater Hockey. At the age of 13, I successfully tried out and earned a spot on Team Canada (U19 level), which propelled me into the international level of the sport. This opened up the world for me and ever since I’ve been an avid traveller both personally and for the sport. I competed in New Zealand, the UK, South Africa, Australia, USA, Colombia, Hungary, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France and all over Canada. After some years, I ended up coaching the U23 team, too. My current goal is to see a new country every year (which is much easier now living in Europe) keep performing at the Elite level in Underwater Hockey until the next generation can take me out of my spot on the International team.”
“Quality solutions to everyday current problems in the automation industry need to be used and my goal is to help companies understand how a solution helps their case. If I can help these cases improve, I hope to help the industry and while it doesn’t always move as fast as I’d like, I still am happy when the solution is implemented and companies find more success.”
